Album Review: Megadeth’s Super Collider

DAVE SOLO 2This album doesn’t mess around. For first time since Cryptic Writing, the entire band returns for a second album with the same lineup. Right out of the shoot Dave & Co. hit you in the face with ‘Kingmaker’. The song features the signature “snarl” and gallop. The second track ‘Super Collider’ in this reviewer’s opinion is the stand-out of the album. While it really isn’t thrash in the purest sense, it is a great heavy metal song. That seems to be the theme throughout this album. The album explorers more than galloping, palm-muted riffs and gets into songs that may transcend old-school, bay area thrash fans. ‘Forget to Remember’ features an appearance by Disturb front-man, David Draiman. No stranger to a cover song, they picked a deep track from Thin Lizzy and made it shine. Johnny K and Cameron Webb give a clean recording that doesn’t assault one’s ear drums while still sounding heavy. Expect to see ‘Kingmaker’, ‘Super Collider’ and ‘The Blackest Crow’ in the set list before long.
